Virtual grossing, drawn by hand
The Art of Science
Precise pathology, taught through art. Interactive 3D specimens you can see from every angle, with every step of the gross: orient, ink, section, sample.
The problem: Grossing is learned from text and pictures that are flat, 2D at best, and real specimens and cadavers are limited and can't be practiced on again and again.
The solution: The Specimen Studio gives you interactive 3D specimens you can explore, ink, and section as many times as you need, anytime and anywhere.
What it is
Grossing is spatial, so learning it shouldn't be flat. The Specimen Studio turns each specimen into an interactive 3D model: spin it, ink the margins, slice it, and follow every cassette back to its source, right on your screen.
Interactive 3D specimens you rotate, zoom and step through, like building instructions for a model kit. Each tap adds the next layer of the workup.
Illustrated lessons built around realistic teaching cases, with cassette keys, pitfalls, sign-out checklists and self-check questions. The companion workbook gives you room to practice your own maps and dictations.
A 3D diagram that links every finding to its cassette, made for the pathologist, the PA, and everyone in between.
Who it's for
Connect the bench to sign-out, ready for every question your attending asks.
Visual, case-based lessons that fit alongside your coursework and clinical rotations.
Refresh rare specimens and sharpen how you document complex cases.
Consistent onboarding, and case diagrams that make the gross description clear to everyone downstream.
See it move
A lumpectomy with two lesions and two clips. Spin it, ink the six margins, slice it serially and see where every cassette comes from. It runs in your browser, on a computer, iPad or phone.
Early prototype: the final models will be sculpted by hand.

Short, practical primers on the skills every grossing room runs on. They are written in plain language, so no prior training is assumed and anyone can start here. Try the free preview, or take the full set on its own.
How a specimen becomes a cassette, then a glass slide, and why each step matters.
What fixative does, how long it takes, and how to keep tissue in good shape.
Finding your landmarks and marking margins so the pathologist can trust them.
Everyday habits that protect you, your team and the specimen.
About
I'm a practicing, board-certified pathologists' assistant with 10+ years at the bench, and an illustrator. Art and teaching have always been two of my biggest passions. Over the years I saw how hard it is to learn grossing from words alone: how a specimen sits, where the margins are, and how one slice relates to the next. So I started drawing it.
The Specimen Studio is where those passions meet. I love turning complex pathology into something you can see and understand, and helping the next generation of grossers learn with clarity and confidence. Every lesson is something I wish I'd had when I was learning.
